“Looking after your body and mind is just as important as what you do on the pitch. To play your best game, you have to feel your best.”

1. 🔋 Sleep & Rest (Recover to Perform)

Growing bodies need plenty of rest to rebuild strength and stay sharp for training and matches.

  • The Goal: Aim for 8 to 10 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night.
  • Match/Training Prep: Try to switch off screens (phones, tablets, gaming) at least 30–45 minutes before bed to help your brain settle down.
  • Why it matters: Good sleep improves reaction times, decision-making on the pitch, and helps prevent injuries.

2. 💧 Hydration (Fuel Your Engine)

Your muscles are mostly made of water—if you’re low on fluids, your energy drops and your legs feel heavy.

  • Daily Habit: Keep a water bottle with you at school and sip throughout the day. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty!
  • Matchday / Training:
    • Drink water before you step out for the warm-up.
    • Take sips during water breaks.
    • Rehydrate properly with water or an isotonic drink straight after the final whistle.
  • Avoid: Fizzy drinks or high-sugar energy drinks right before a game—they give you a quick spike, but lead to a fast crash.

3. 🍎 Nutrition & Matchday Fuel

You wouldn’t drive a car without putting the right fuel in it. Same goes for your football.

  • Pre-Match Fuel (2–3 hours before kick-off): Eat slow-release carbohydrates for sustained energy.
    • Examples: Porridge, banana, pasta, rice, or toast with peanut butter or jam.
  • Post-Match Recovery (Within 45 mins of finishing): Help your muscles repair.
    • Examples: A piece of fruit, a protein bar, or a light meal containing protein and carbs.

4. 🧘 Physical Care & Recovery

Look after your joints and muscles so you stay ready for every session.

  • Warm-Ups & Cool-Downs: Never skip the movement prep before training or the cool-down stretch after. It tells your body it’s time to switch gears.
  • Aches & Pains: If something hurts or feels tight, speak up. Let a coach know early rather than playing through an injury that could get worse.
  • Active Rest: Go for a light walk or kick a ball around casually on days off, but give your mind and body time to switch off from intense competition.

5. 🧠 Mental Wellbeing & Mindset

Football should be fun, supportive, and an escape.

  • Team First: Support your teammates. A positive environment builds confidence across the whole squad.
  • Mistakes Happen: Mistakes are just proof that you’re trying. Shake it off, help your teammate recover the ball, and focus on the next action.
  • Talk to Us: Whether you’re stressed with school exams, feeling low, or struggling with a knock, our door is always open. You can always talk to your coaches.
