The neutral players in this video example will work from designated positions with the team in possession. There will be a four-player team trying to score a goal. In order to reverse roles, the defending team of four tries to win the ball and score in either of the two target goals.

Heaton Stan U14s: Tactical Drill Rules

  • Objective: To cultivate smart progressive play and patient possession.
  • Progression Requirement: The ball must successfully travel through all three thirds of the pitch (Defensive, Midfield, and Attacking) before a team is allowed to attempt a shot at goal.
  • Recycling Rule: If the ball is won or intercepted within the opponent’s final third (the attacking third), the team in possession cannot immediately attack. The ball must be recycled back through the thirds (e.g., back into the midfield third) before starting a new progression.
