Phase 1: Warm-up:
- Fifa 11+
Phase 2: Activation Game
- Bib Tag
Phase 3: Tactical Focus
This activation combination practice focuses on essential “up, back, through” patterns where players must immediately follow their pass.
Over a simple 8-yard distance, the absolute baseline expectation is to control the ball cleanly and successfully string together three consecutive passes. Mastering these short, precise exchanges is non-negotiable; if the team cannot consistently control and pass the ball in an unopposed drill, playing effective football on the pitch becomes impossible.
Nailing these basic mechanics is the absolute foundation of a strong passing game, and it is exactly what allows us to progress forward together as a team with controlled possession on matchday.

In this high-intensity 1v1 practice, both players begin in a press-up position touching the central ball.
On the shout of ‘go’, players must instantly spring to their feet, sprint out and around the yellow cone to their right, and race straight back to the centre.
This is where the practice truly matters: winning the individual duel. Football is fundamentally built on winning your personal battles all over the pitch. Being the first to react and secure possession dictates who earns the right to attack the goal and who is instantly forced onto the back foot to defend. Committing to these 1v1 duals with absolute determination is vital—because if we cannot fight for the ball and win our individual matchups, we will never earn the time or space to actually play our passing game.
- Session Title: Finishing and Defensive Footwork
- How It Works: This tenth activation setup focuses on finishing and defensive footwork. During the practice, two teams will try to score as many goals as possible in a given time period. After attempting to score, players will transition to defending against their opponent.
Phase 4: Conditioned Game
How It Works: 4v4 plus 3 variation as part of the transition to attack theme. The neutral players in this video example will work from designated positions with the team in possession. There will be a four-player team trying to score a goal. In order to reverse roles, the defending team of four tries to win the ball and score in either of the two target goals.
